A citizen reported a burglary. The suspects were located nearby and were taken into custody. Officers booked Jose Valdez, 26, into jail for burglary and theft by receiving stolen property. Officers also booked Sandra Olivares, 32, into jail for burglary, theft by receiving stolen property, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
A 28 year old female attempted to walk southbound across 600 South in heavy traffic. She was struck by a vehicle coming off the 600 South exit from I-15. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The victim has been identified as Cassandra Squires, age 28.
A man was inside his house when a male entered the home and struck the victim in the head with a hatchet. The plastic safety cover was still on the hatchet at the time of the assault, but the victim still sustained a laceration to his head. The suspect left through the backyard of the house and was not located. The victim was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries. The suspect is described as a white male adult, approximately 50 years old, 6 feet tall, 200 lbs., and is bald with tattoos.
